Rik Nys studied architecture, history, and philosophy of architecture in both Belgium and London and has been a member of David Chipperfield Architects since 1989. During this time he led his own practice and held teaching posts at the University of Cambridge and London Metropolitan University (LMU). He has been a visiting professor and lectures at various institutions worldwide; his research and writings cover a variety of topics, including cultural sustainability in historic cities. He re-joined the practice full time in 2007 and has overseen international exhibitions and major publications for the practice. Most recently he was in charge of the layout for the 13th Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Biennale, and in 2013 edited a comprehensive monograph on David Chipperfield Architects, published by Buchhandlung Walther Koenig and Thames & Hudson.
